Teaching a virtual 3rd grade classroom during first semester and in an in-person 5th grade classroom for second semester
As a substitute teacher, I use the district site (Frontline) to accept daily posted openings throughout the entire district. In the 2019-2020 school year, I worked in kindergarten, 1st grade, 2/3 Quest, 4th, 5th, Special Education, and specialist classrooms. While on the job, I review the lesson plans set out for me, reach out to building employees with questions about the class or about resources needed, ensure that students get to and from various locations, and offer support to building administration with any spare time.
I took on a maternity leave position in a 3rd grade classroom at Wilder Elementary School. During my time there, I created weekly and daily lesson plans, communicated daily with parents regarding the material covered, collaborated with administration and the grade level team. I taught lessons to the class while also involving student contributions heavily to ensure that the they were able to make connections with the material. At the six-week mark, the state was put on immediate lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak. I created a classroom website on the district approved platform (PowerSchool Learning) and worked with the third grade team to offer weekly review work for students. After four weeks of this, we were asked to transition our classes to distance learning. I assigned lessons and related review work for students to begin their distance learning experience before the position came to an end.
