After being retired for a little over two years, I have decided to run for Mayor of Oro Valley, Arizona in 2026. Oro Valley has been my home for more than three decades. We face many challenges in the future. As our Mayor, I hope to bring to bear my many years of public administration experience to help us navigate those challenges. I am the Sheriff of a major county. I serve on numerous committees locally and nationally. As a Sheriff of a border county I am very familiar with border security and transnational crime issues. I am an accomplished law enforcement leader and very active adult educator. I have been actively involved in adult education for more than 21 years. I am a competent administrator with well-developed written and oral communication skills. I am a dynamic leader who is able to inspire others to new levels of excellence. Expert experience and competency in all areas of public administration. Specialties: Formally served as the Internal Auditor for the Tucson Police Department. I am competent in the development, interpretation and enforcement of organizational policies. Formally the Capital Projects Manager for the Tucson Police Department. I managed several multi-million dollar capital projects.
Manage all aspects of the Boston University On-line Masters in Criminal Justice Program. This includes monitoring of on-line course facilitators, upholding academic standards, auditing facilitator performance and recommending program changes.
Elected Sheriff of Pima County. Employ 1500 persons, with a budget of $152 million. Pima County is 9200 square miles with a population of 1 million.
Manage all parking operations and alternate transportation programs for the University
Appointed by Mayor and Council to serve as a Commissioner. Made recommendations to Mayor and Council regarding zoning and land use questions. Held public hearings to obtain public input on proposed changes.
