About

My research and teaching interests are (and have been) focused on the social construction of new (electronic/digital) media, with specific reference to the various ways in which the individual and society are implicated in media use. Furthermore, I do research on how media professionals 'make it work' in an unforgiving industry that relies on their passion. My primary objects of study are: media management and production, new media and society, and mental health and well-being. Furthermore, I am part of the indie rock outfit Skinflower, with a new album (titled "Kaduc") out in July 2024. Check us out on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and elsewhere. Recent & upcoming book projects: 2020/202x - McQuail's Mass Communication Theory new 7th edition of seminal handbook (8th edition work in progress). 2023 - Life in Media: a Global Introduction to Media Studies, published by The MIT Press. 2025 - What Makes You Happy Can Make You Sick: The Mental Health Crisis In The Global Media Industries, with publisher: Intellect. 202x - Media Love, part three of trilogy Media Work (2007), Media Life (2012); co-authored with Laura Glitsos, contracted with Polity Press. 2027 - Media Work (brand new edition of my 2007 monograph on what work is like across the global media industries).
