Bioinformatics & Evolutionary Genomics. Applied bioinformatics, comparative genomics and proteomics techniques to investigate genomic evolution in plant pathogenic Phytophthora species and other oomycetes. Supervised by Dr. David Fitzpatrick in the Genome Evolution Laboratory of Maynooth University.
Demonstrated a number of labs at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Topics demonstrated include Bioinformatics, Cellular Biotechnology, Comparative Genomics, Environmental Biology, Immunology and Proteomics. I have also demonstrated a number of Computer Science labs in the past during my undergraduate degree, including Computer Systems and Object Oriented Programming (through Java).
Funded by the Maynooth University SPUR programme (Summer Programme for Undergraduate Research), I spent 6 weeks developing an extension for Moodle (virtual learning environment) that allows students and staff to collaboratively annotate files. The overall goal of this project was to develop a tool that allows educators to evaluate and improve their teaching effectiveness and allow students to become more aware of their peers’ views and opinions, increasing their critical awareness. I continued developing the extension for my Computer Science thesis. Technologies used: PHP, JavaScript, SQL and CSS.
