Provides policy analysis/strategy expertise on criminal justice reform issues to mission-driven organizations, including: • Conducting policy research and analysis • Drafting legislation • Crafting legislative and advocacy strategies • Engaging diverse stakeholders • Building and managing coalitions • Managing government affairs • Writing reports
• Lead coordination of state expansion efforts that includes creating and carrying out policy strategies in partnership with elected offices, state-based and national stakeholder organizations, and other external partners. • Provide support to state partners in developing strategies for – and crafting messaging around – creating, passing, and implementing DA resentencing legislation. • Review, analyze, and track existing or proposed legislation relating to DA Reform, Sentencing Reform, and “Second Look” sentencing at the federal, state, and local levels. • Collect and clean relevant datasets and conduct quantitative analyses to identify various trends and opportunities for fiscal, sentencing, and racialized improvements to the criminal legal system. • Draft and provide research support for written policy materials. • Build and help manage relationships with elected officials, local advocates, and national partners. • Provide support for legislation and initiatives that advance relevant justice reforms at the federal, state, and local levels.
• Taught undergraduate students for the following courses: PSYCH 101 (Research & Data Analysis in Psychology), POLI SCI 5 (Introduction to International Relations), PSYCH C162 (Human Happiness), PUB AFF 235 (Research Methods for Public Policy), PPIA 1 (Policy Analysis & Communications), and PPIA 2 (Quantitative Methods).
• Analyzed data from interviews with system-impacted women and transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) folks regarding their experiences in the juvenile justice, adult justice, and foster care systems. • Assisted with facilitating the Siblings Rising internship program for young adults, including leading research sessions, helping interns apply for college courses, and providing support on offsite activities.
