Greetings! My name is Maya Asante and I graduated Cum Laude from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies. I am highly passionate about environmental and sustainability topics and demonstrate this through my work experiences. By working at Ingredion as a Corporate Sustainability intern, I gained expertise in working on human rights agendas, supplier codes of conduct and sustainability standards (such as ISO 26000). From my work as an intern in the Office of Campus Sustainability, I learned about the operation of sustainability rating systems such as the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. I also have experience with food systems and sustainable/regenerative agriculture after working at the Bucknell Farm for 4 years as a Student Farmer Leader. With the knowledge gained from these opportunities, I am working towards a career in sustainability and ESG.
Learn business fundamentals to compete successfully for internship opportunities and complete industry-specific training and assessments focused on developing technical skills, institutional knowledge, and attention to detail.
Helped progress Ingredion’s human rights agenda by completing three projects on identifying high-risk suppliers, creating an ISO 26000 action plan, and performing a supplier code of conduct review. In addition, I completed various Workday courses covering the topics of Greenhouse Gas Awareness, Renewable Energy Awareness, and Water Sustainability.
Aided Dr.Haussmann and the student research team in researching the impact of stress on the aging process.
Worked alongside a team of student farmers to grow fresh produce by using sustainable and regenerative agricultural methods. My main tasks included farm tours, leading farm tasks, planning and coordinating farm& community events, and meeting with the farm leadership team bi-weekly.
Working in the Office of Campus Sustainability, I aided in the completion of the AASHE Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System report for Bucknell University.
Learned about ongoing and planned sustainability initiatives for the Nestle Ghana Factory. Completed assignments that enlightened me on topics of waste management, water treatment, and health risks and remediation.
