In the dual role of Test Lab Manager / Test Engineer I manage the Crossroads Test Lab whilst also using my technical knowledge to assist engineers and technicians. Organize test scheduling for the Crossroads Environmental Test Lab to provide real-time visibility of the status for batteries in the test lab. Coordinate with other EaglePicher labs for test resources. Analyze and troubleshoot electrical test equipment. Investigate problems with testing and deliver root cause analysis.
As a test engineer I developed new ideas for current test techniques to mitigate risk and reinforce test quality, efficiency and safety. Implemented error proofing techniques for environmental testing on military hardware (batteries). This included using different techniques for fastening accelerometers to vibration and shock fixtures to ensure repeatability and control. Utilized QR codes for vibration and shock profile selection. Generated operating procedures for vibration exciters and vibration software. The standard operating procedures consisted of how to rotate the shaker, startup & shutdown, what to torque the bullnose to, etc. They also included how to navigate the vibration controller software. Provided troubleshooting for UD Apex and Vibration Research VR9500 vibration controllers. On occasion an operator would have a problem performing a shock profile on a shaker so I would use different wave synthesis types, change the effective duration, etc. to achieve the shock profile, all within the tolerances of the test procedure of course. Acted as Quality Assurance for off-site mechanical shock testing. I participated as QA to make sure testing was within tolerance. Performed vibration testing on the battery for the next Mars rover. I had the pleasure of performing this vibration as an operator due to the complexity of this set up. This was a challenging educational task and I got to use Force Limiting Transducers. Operated and acquired data for a prototype high g impact machine. I focused on bringing the impact machine up-to-speed and fine tuning the air pressure and the programming to give the required classical half-sine shock pulse. Verified and reviewed qualification and acceptance test procedures for the lab's capabilities to meet requirements. Oversaw testing for shock, vibration and destructive testing. Provided guidance for best practice for testing.
I taught the lab sections for calculus based physics I & II. This included teaching students basic fundamentals of physics, lab techniques and team communication.
