I truly believe that the future of our Earth relies on sustainability and the proper management of our resources. If we are to maintain our environment for the future, we must develop sustainable building and management techniques. I believe that one of the best ways that we can do this is through the integration of as much living fauna into our urban environments as possible through the construction of living roofs and walls on most, if not all urban buildings. The ecological and economic benefits that living roofs and walls provide are incredible and they are able to provide every ecosystem service in areas that are in dire need of them. I have recently graduated from the University of Guelph having gained a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science degree, majoring in Environment and Resource Management (BSc.Envs. ERM). During my time of study, I created and presented a cost benefit analysis on the ecological, environmental and economical benefits that green roofs provide on all scales. I also undertook a project to come up with multiple options for the remediation of the abandoned seal pond in the University of Guelph Arboretum. In this project I had to do an EIA for the different options in order to determine that only a partial remediation of the site would be the best option as it would pose the least negative affects while still remediating the site.
