About

Max Mooney is a Queer writer, director, producer, stage manager, theater educator and dramaturg based in Brooklyn, spending most of her time making theater. Max develops new work in joyfully collaborative settings that find the intersections between poetry and visual/maximalist theater. Max’s directing and writing work has been seen and workshopped at The Wild Project, The Tank, Dixon Place, Concrete Temple Theatre, Rooted Theater Company, Fresh Fruit Festival, the Brick Aux, Paradise Factory & many Brooklyn rooftops and friends’ living rooms. She was a 2023 semi finalist for the Terrence McNally New Works Incubator and 2025 semi finalist for The O’Neill’s National Playwrights Conference. Max’s work as a stage manager and producer gravitates towards the strange and the visual. She has worked with companies like HERE Arts Center, Under the Radar, Ars Nova, The Leimay Ensemble, PAGEANT, Fake Friends Theater Company, Baryshnikov Arts Center, La MaMa, Little Island, Theater Mitu, Powerhouse Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club and many more. Max serves as the Associate Producer at Concrete Temple Theater, Assistant Producer at En Garde Arts and is an affiliate artist of Trove Theatre/Live Arts Collective. She is the curator of The Tank’s 2025 Pridefest. Remixed Classics, a theater education handbook co-authored by Max, won a 2023 Vattemare Award. Max has a BFA from NYU Tisch’s Playwrights Horizons Theatre School, specializing in directing and playwriting.

The shows of PrideFest 2025 address queer joy, laughter, struggle, resistance and beauty through a range of mediums including theater, comedy, puppetry, storytelling, and music. These performances will reflect where we've come from, where we are, and where we can go.
