Supported by significant market pull, the portfolio under my leadership exceeded sales targets for multiple consecutive years.
Recognizing that power electronics would become a foundational element of the future power grid, I was tasked with defining, structuring, staffing, and operating a Global Strategic Program for Power Electronics across all Business Units and Research Centers within Hitachi Energy. The goal was to coordinate and accelerate product development and go‑to‑market strategies in response to growing system needs for controllability and flexibility driven by the energy transition. The program was developed from a clean slate and executed through close collaboration with the Hitachi Energy CTO and the Global Head of Portfolio, including regular reporting of progress and results to the Hitachi Energy CEO. The initiative was successfully established and has continued to operate for several years under the same structure and scope.
Held global responsibility for the entire Hitachi Energy Grid and Power Quality Solutions portfolio, including AIS and GIS substations, digital solutions, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), and power‑electronics‑based grid interconnection technologies such as Static Frequency Converters (SFC). The portfolio generated more than USD 1 billion in annual order intake. Led a globally distributed team of highly skilled Global Product Managers, Global Product Specialists, and Design‑to‑Value Leaders. Key achievements included jointly defining the global strategy with the Global Product Group Manager, driving a significant increase in market share across core businesses, and redefining market positioning while expanding into new segments.
Held global responsibility for maximizing revenue, market share, and profitability of the FACTS solution family, including Static Var Compensation (SVC) and STATCOM systems, with annual order intake typically exceeding USD 100 million. Led global market and competitor analysis, solution positioning, pricing strategy, and portfolio roadmap development. Delivered key achievements during the period, including the successful market introduction of new solutions and a doubling of global market share compared with 2015 levels.
Led the Sweden‑based R&D department for power‑electronics solutions, managing a sizable team of engineers and project managers developing technologies such as FACTS, battery energy storage systems (BESS), shore‑to‑ship power, and railway power infeed for utilities, industries, renewable integrators, and transport infrastructure owners. Oversaw the development and growth of the department, including mission definition, competence mapping, capability development, and recruitment. Implemented the global R&D roadmap in close cooperation with international research centers and universities. In parallel, built and established a dedicated R&D team in India to expand global development capacity. Held responsibility for a significant R&D budget and resource envelope, ensuring effective allocation to priority innovation initiatives
