About

Mattias Lower holds a Master of Music Studies (Vocal Pedagogy) and Graduate Diploma in Voice from Queensland Conservatorium and an Honours degree from Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium (University of Adelaide). Mattias also holds a Bachelor of Education from The University of Queensland. Mattias studied conducting with Carl Crossin (University of Adelaide) and Chistopher Kiver (The University of Queensland). As a classically trained tenor, Mattias has sung professionally with Opera Queensland, State Opera of South Australia, Opera Australia, West London Opera, Guildford Opera and Underground Opera. He has toured with Co-Opera, OzOpera and with Circa’s production Il Ritorno in both Australia and Germany. He also toured throughout Europe as tenor soloist with the English Concert Singers, conducted by Roy Wales. Operatic roles include Aeneas/The Sailor (Dido and Aeneas), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Le Mari (Les Mamelles de Teresias), Beppe (I Pagliacci), Don Jose/Remendado (Carmen), Camille (The Merry Widow), Cassio (Otello), Gastone (La Traviata) and Chuck/Doctor in the Australian premiere of The Perfect American. He also appeared in Edwards' Christina's World, broadcast on ABC Classic FM, and recorded new works by Leslie Julian Jones and Peter Rankine. Mattias has appeared as Evangelist in Bach’s Passions and as oratorio soloist with The Queensland Orchestra, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and at St John's Smith Square London. Mattias is a founding member of critically acclaimed chamber ensemble Soirées Musicales Quintette (https://www.soireesmusicalesquintette.com/). As an educator, Mattias has had a breadth of experience as a classroom teacher of Music and Mathematics, a voice teacher and a conductor. He currently teaches Classical Voice at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. His role includes running the First Year Performance Class, which culminates in an annual Gala Concert which Mattias directs and conducts. Mattias’s conducting experience encompasses school choirs in England and Australia. Mattias was Associate Conductor of the Mansfield Chorale and has also undertaken off-stage conducting duties for OzOpera and Opera Queensland.
