Developing probabilistic methods for problems in acoustics and combustion noise
Gas turbine engines: •Rapid development of small gas turbine engines (7 months from spec sheet to test bench) •Design and analysis of combustors using a multi-fidelity design process spanning custom reduced order models to coupled reacting flow CFD simulations. •Overall system design of small gas turbine engines. Ensured good communication between thermodynamic component teams so that subsystems remained matched and within bounds of target performance. •Many complaints from my wife that I stink of jet fuel. Solid rocket motors: •Development of an in-house internal ballistics code for SRM design and analysis. •Conceptual and detailed design of SRM grains. •Many hours spent playing with shapes.
•Structural and aerodynamic design and substantiation, flight testing, and working with the local aviation authority. •Developed a system to improve the aircraft costing process and interface with custom designed modifications. •Many lunches lost to flight testing.
