* Provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for Brandeis University’s campus operations, planning, infrastructure, and public safety functions, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and long-term master planning goals. * Direct the planning, development, and execution of major campus capital projects, renovations, deferred maintenance initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades across academic, residential, and administrative facilities. * Oversee campus operational departments including facilities management, campus planning, grounds, custodial services, utilities, fleet operations, and related operational support services. * Provide senior oversight of Public Safety operations, including sworn police services, security systems, patrol deployment, investigations, community policing initiatives, and campus safety programming. * Direct campus-wide emergency management operations, including emergency preparedness planning, tabletop exercises, continuity of operations planning, crisis communications coordination, and emergency response protocols. * Oversee Environmental Health & Safety functions, including regulatory compliance, occupational safety, hazardous materials oversight, fire and life safety programs, and environmental risk mitigation. * Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including Clery Act reporting, OSHA standards, fire code compliance, hazardous waste regulations, and Massachusetts POST standards. * Support campus sustainability goals by integrating environmental stewardship, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and climate resilience planning into operational and capital decision-making. * Lead long-term strategic planning initiatives that modernize campus infrastructure, improve campus safety, and enhance operational resilience for future institutional needs.
The Associate Vice President for Campus Operations and Public Safety provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for a broad portfolio of essential university services. Areas of responsibility include: Public Safety and Emergency Services: University Police, EMS, and Emergency Management. Transportation and Parking: Shuttle services and the campus parking office. Environmental Health and Safety: Compliance, risk reduction, and campus safety initiatives. Facilities Operations: Facilities services, custodial services, trades, and grounds.
Serve as the university’s chief emergency management coordinator; Co-Chair the universities Crisis team; Information technology project management; Manage the departments federal, state, local and Clery Act compliance standards; Accreditation manager; Manage the departments communications functions, to include inter-operability and emergency communications; Serve on the South Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, Hostage Negotiator. Responsible for a population of 400,355 comprised of 842 square miles and 32 municipalities.
Development, management of universities Crisis plan to include tabletops and exercises; Management of university and departmental continuity, emergency management and critical IT infrastructure. Management of Clery Act Compliance, production of annual Clery Crime Report. Management of emergency communications, including inter-agency operation, emergency alert systems/notification systems. Knowledge of the complexities of managing a union environment. Manage department software/hardware needs, develop capital improvement plans. Experience in crisis management, major event planning. Provide leadership and supervision to police, communications, and student staff. Management of student employee staff of over 100, and safety escort service; average of 80,000 riders per year. Hiring, training, and planning for ongoing transition from 100 member outsourced security department to an in-house fully trained police and security department. Policy and Procedures development and implementation. Develop and establish relationships with Boston Police, Fire, EMS, County Sheriffs Department and the Massachusetts court system.
