Woolworths: Senior Technical Consultant on application migrations from VMware to Azure, GCP and Private Cloud Developed Cloud Cost Comparison sheets to compare the costs between running IaaS in GCP, Azure, a VMware Private Cloud and On-Prem including OS Licensing implications , management fees etc Developed processes to automate the gathering of VMware specific information to provide details of all Apps and VMs needing to be migrated out of Woolworth’s data centres to AVS, or Azure or GCP Helped solve major techical issues of latency between systems, SSL cert issues and performance of apps Provided architectural support to our apps teams and infrastructure architects for Cloud deployments considerations Updated runbooks and DR plans as part of migrations NSW Health: Technical consultant on assessments and migration planning for GovDC cloud migration program Consultant on the IaaS Journey to commission and broker infrastructure based on cloud and as-a-Service offerings, including being lead consultant on POC for Storage and Backup IaaS initiatives Technical consultant on the development of data centre strategy for a major LHD Origin Energy: Technical consultant on two separate independent post incident reviews following SAN outages Liaised between two managed service vendors and client to get information related to the outage Analysed information from storage, systems and databases to determine root cause of outage Documented storage best practices so incident less likely to reoccur ASX: Assisted with the development of a DevOps Infrastructure Review document on DevOps best practices, software enablers and infrastructure delivery model Charles Sturt University: Developed six different high level designs for backup services including pros and cons of each Determined the costs for three of the high-level backup designs as selected by CSU including backup to cloud for archive of backups to AWS S3 and Glacier
• Designed, configured and managed a heterogeneous storage environment with over 400+ hosts utilising 800+ TB of storage on 11 different platforms (3PAR, XP2400, P9500, NetApp, P4500, EVA, HP StoreEasy (MS Windows Storage Server 2012), VLS9000, MSA, HP StoreOnce 4900 and Data Domain) across 2 states and 5 data centres with 1600 SAN port count. • Supported storage systems that delivered content for Fairfax’s websites, streaming video, back office financial systems, VMware farm, VDI, newspaper production, archiving, data warehouse and business intelligence systems. • Designed and implemented 3PAR Adaptive Optimisation schedules to move data between different tiers of storage (SSD, SAS and SATA) to maximise performance of systems while minimising the cost. • Performed performance reporting and tuning for SAN and backups infrastructure using HP Performance Advisor (XP24000 and P9500), System Reporter (3PAR), HP StoreVirtual Performance (P4500), OnCommand System Manager (NetApp), NetApp Management Console, Network Advisor (Brocade), NetBackup Operations Manager and EVA Perf. • Designed and configured SnapMirror (NetApp), CAXP and Business Copy XP (XP2400), CAEVA and Business Copy (HP EVA), Remote Copy (StoreVirtual), Remote Copy (3PAR) and Data Domain to maintain local and remote copies of data for DR and HA applications. • Performed physical to virtual (P2V) conversion of storage management servers to reduce physical server count, rack space used and power consumed. • Racked and stacked Servers and Storage in data centre ran fibre cables to connect up storage arrays and servers to fabrics. • Undertook comprehensive transfer of knowledge of Fairfax’s storage arrays, backups and processes to vendor to facilitate outsourcing of BAU operations
• Designed and implemented Fairfax’s first iSCSI SAN (P4500). • Designed and implemented NetApp filers for the use of Financial Review Groups’ publication of the Australian Financial Review newspaper. • Planned, performed and project managed Symantec NetBackup upgrade from 6.5 to 7.1.0.4 Reduced costs associated with tape handling by 50% by designing and installing Data Domain backup storage device to improve backup times. • Streamlined and reduced backup times by installing and tuning a VTL (HP VLS9000 ) for backups. • Reviewed patch and bug reports to recommend upgrades. • Coordinated with the business for outage windows to allow for the upgrades of the SAN storage arrays. • Project managed, planned and migrated data from aging HP EVA5000s to HP EVA8000s.
et up and installed HP SIM to monitor HP EVA health in 4 data centres to proactively support the infrastructure. • Designed and installed Fairfax’s first fibre channel SAN with HP EVA5000s and Brocade FC switches. • Designed business continuity systems (disaster recovery) for SAN and for UNIX and Linux servers. • Converted editorial workflow server from running on Solaris 2.6 to RedHat Linux Advanced Server. • Led a team of UNIX systems administrators of Fairfax’s UNIX and Linux systems to keep the newspaper production systems running, never missing a publication. • Simplified processing of files to maximise efficiency, enabling imaging and library staff to save time and be more productive. • Converted Fairfax’s image and text archive from a Trip database running on Solaris to Oracle and PHP on Linux. This converted every text story and image printed in Fairfax’s publications since 1984 from one format to another and allowed editorial staff to browse and reuse images and stories for upcoming newspaper stories. • Developed and managed system to send PDF copies of the newspaper to external overseas clients to print the newspaper for expatriates and airline passengers. • Implemented enterprise-wide backup solution using NetBackup 3.4, which was instrumental in increasing productivity of computer operators by no longer requiring them to change over 30 individual tape drives a day. This installation was just in time to enable the business to recover from the ILOVEYOU virus outbreak and not miss a publication after 10,000 images were deleted when the virus was accidentally triggered. • Implemented and maintained intra computer connectivity scripts (MVS, VMS, MS Windows, OS/2, Mac, Linux and Solaris) using Perl scripts to convert incoming data to allow each system to get files in the required format and saving on expensive workflow software purchases. • Administered JBOD disks and DG Clarion and HDS Raid Arrays.
