Responsible for the mechanical design of complex marine systems for the defence industry, which involves: • Interpreting user & system requirements • Developing, testing & evaluating theoretical designs • Producing CAD models & technical drawings in-line with recognised standards • Discussing & solving complex problems with multiple stakeholders e.g. other disciplines, suppliers & customers • Supporting in the trials & qualification of systems/deliverables Projects Include: • Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) – Initially tasked with research & testing of various propulsion systems which was extended into full design, manufacture & trials of a technology demonstrator to evaluate propulsion performance. I continued to support the project as mechanical design lead which involved System Requirement Document (SRD) review & mechanical interpretation, propulsion system development & hardware specification, structural & hydrodynamic analysis, final concept design CAD & renders, engaging with suppliers & supporting procurement activities, creating work package estimates, writing technical documentation & presenting to the customer. • Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) Tooling – Tasked with designing & qualifying new SAS array tooling for volume production to replace qualification unit tooling which struggled to meet array flatness tolerances & was difficult to operate. My design has now been used to produce a number of units with significantly improved array tolerances, reduced rework & total system build time as a result of improved process quality control & inspection methods. • Unmanned Marine Ordinance Disposal System - Developed a technology demonstrator for an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which utilized a suite of onboard sensors coupled with machine learning to identify marine ordinance before lowering itself into position - ready to trigger a shape charge capable of initiating a high order detonation.
