Having completed my two year training contract at Travers Smith, I joined the Private Equity and Financial Sponsors team as an associate in September 2023.
I completed my two year training contract at Travers Smith, sitting with the Real Estate, Commercial IP & Technology and Employment teams, and then sitting and qualifying into the in the Private Equity and Financial Sponsors department.
I completed a two week vacation scheme at the firm, sitting in the Financial Services and Markets and the Corporate M&A departments. Additionally, I completed a number of assessments, sat in on seminars and participated in workshops. This was a great opportunity to meet a wide number of people from the firm, trainees, associates, partners and all other members of the team at Travers Smith.
Completing the Pathways to Law scheme over two years provided a great opportunity to learn much more about a law degree and the different careers available in the legal field. There were many opportunities to meet a large number of lawyers from a variety of firms, to visit the offices of firms including Allen and Overy and Herbert Smith Freehills and to generally gain an insight into a law career.
The week at DLA was an opportunity to meet and speak to a large number of people from the firm and to develop a number of skills. Tasks completed during the week involved negotiation workshops, giving a presentation on the firm to partners and participating in a mock interview. This was a great insight into an international law firm and to see the large variety of corporate law firms in the UK.
Visited the firm for a week, spending my first time in a legal environment and gaining an insight into the work of corporate lawyers by shadowing a number of members of the team, sitting in on meetings and calls and completing a number of research tasks.
