I have more than 20 years of experience in integrated optics, both in industrial basic research and in academia. I have been lucky enough to work twice at RLE MIT, first in 2002, when Prof. Hermann Haus was building the foundations of modern silicon photonics, and then again in 2011, when Haus' pupil Michael R Watts just started building his microphotonics group. Then I've joined for more than 11 years the silicon photonics team at VTT, where I was also responsible for the photonics aspects of quantum technologies. In March 2023 I've joined Xanadu. I'm first of all a device expert, including passive, active and nonlinear devices. I am also an experienced project manager and received training for professional project management. What I love the most is carrying on creative, honest, rigorous, and useful research. I like to define myself a πππππππ‘π π‘βπππππ π‘, meaning that I like to apply powerful mathematical abstractions to very concrete problems.
