Former chemical process engineer turned developer. Passion in IoT / Industry 4.0 technology and experience in SIS, energy efficiency, and safety of high risk products. I started in regulatory compliance, moved to process engineering, and now work primarily in digitization and software development. Due to this path I have a breadth of experience in manufacturing, as I have learned a thing or two over the years.
- Piloting Connected Worker solution for Andersen - Developed enterprise standards for visual assembly technology
Maximize Productivity with a Single TouchPoint for Operations Management
Continuing my previous role, I focused on digitization of Industrial Business Group factories. I worked with Operations and the Business to achieve better outcomes on the factory floor. This meant automation of low-value tasks, error-proofing, data visualization, and connection of legacy and future data systems. My background has served me well as I link the operator on the line with business goals - typically using software and data. Much of my work was development in C# and SQL with some HTML. I feel I'm in a unique position as a developer with 10+ years in industrial manufacturing solving problems on the floor. This background has been essential to help push new technology on the front line. My work process became a mixture of Lean Manufacturing with Agile Project Management, which I have found to be optimal for this new frontier.
In this role I focused on data automation projects for the Industrial Adhesives & Tapes Division (IATD), driving new technologies and programs at the plants. Workflow Lead - Deployed new Workflow integration software at Springfield factory. This software replaces the operator UI and transfers data between legacy software systems. - Five disparate systems and UIs are now down to 1. This has led to productivity improvements, error reductions, and improved data quality. - Continuing on the success, replication is occurring across the plant.
I accomplished a few things during my time in Cottage Grove Chemical Plant. - Installation of the first Safety Instrumented System (SIS/LOPA) at 3M - ISO 50001 Certification for the Cottage Grove site, the first of such complexity at 3M - Implementation of an Intrinsically Safe tablet on the production floor in conjunction with Savigent Workflow software that communicated to the Delta V DCS - Pilot of Emerson Machine Health Advisor software on reactor systems - Development of division strategy to adopt "IoT/Industy 4.0" technologies - Over $1 million in growth dollar savings created by process optimization on constrained assets - Upgrade of reactor systems to Delta V Among many other things... Some of those other things: Process/Technical Responsibility for Ceramic Sols product manufacture in Cottage Grove http://www.3m.com/market/industrial/ceramics/ Equipment engineering responsibility for 2 of 4 production buildings, as well as spray dry process and tank farm. This entailed: -Process improvements through new equipment design, upgrades, ergonomic and safety enhancements -Issue troubleshooting (mechanical, chemical, and electrical) -Maintenance and contractor direction and management -Capital project development and guidance Energy and Sustainability Leader for Cottage Grove Chemical
