Dave Mateo is the Head of Impact Strategy at LIXIL, he leads the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives, ESG ratings, reporting and disclosure, and strategy development ànd executions that align with the company's vision and purpose. In his previous role, Dave was the Head of Sustainability and Public Affairs in Danone Japan, a Certified B Corp and a global leader in food and dairy products, and the Sustainability & Energy Group Manager at Walmart Japan. He has over 20 years of experience in sustainability and impact strategy, ESG performance management, reporting, and assurance across various sectors and regions. He is passionate about creating positive social and environmental impact through responsible business practices and stakeholder engagement. Dave led the task force that achieved the B Corp certification for Danone Japan, making it the first and largest B Corp in Japan's FMCG industry. He also managed the sustainability strategy and execution for evian Japan, Danone's water business. He leverages his expertise in water, carbon emissions, renewable energy, responsible sourcing, and sustainable supply chain management to drive continuous improvement and innovation. He is a Ph.D. holder in Global Environmental Studies from Kyoto University and supports the B Market Builder Japan as its Growth & Impact Lead support and promote the B Corp movement in Japan. He is also a co-founding member of Planet People, a global community of sustainability professionals. He resides in Tokyo and speaks English, Japanese, and Filipino.

Responsible for the management and identification of sustainability and energy risks and opportunities that challenge Walmart in its Japan operations. Dave ensures the effective and efficient implementation of Walmart's sustainability strategies. He creates strategic action plans for addressing the cost, availability and deployment of energy and sustainability projects in alignment with Walmart's 2025 Sustainability Agenda; collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to provide strategic direction, support and expertise for climate change and sustainability in order to effectively and continuously meet the industry and customer requirements; leads cross-functional teams in effectively identifying and quantifying organizational risk related to current and future sustainability issues, with particular focus on energy efficiency, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction (science-based target), water management, zero-waste goals, and sustainable product and value chain. On-going projects: (1) Facility energy efficiency & 2025 GHG emission reduction (science-based target); (2) Zero Waste by 2025; (3) Food Loss & Food Waste Reduction (-50%) by 2025; (3) Sustainable Packaging 2025 (100% Recyclable Packaging for all global private brands); (4) Sustainable Commodities 2025 (sustainable, ethical, responsible sourcing & procurement); (5) Zero Net Deforestation 2020 (focus: palm oil, pulp & paper, Brazilian beef & soy).
