With over twenty years’ experience in international affairs, diplomacy and social innovation, Massimiliano Montanari is Executive Director of Save the Dream – a global initiative conceived to empower youth through safe access to sport and to its educational and social values. As part of his role as Executive Director, Massimiliano has been leading the growth and development of Save the Dream as a global nonprofit Movement of organisations, people and athletes working together to build more fair and inclusive societies through the power of sport values. In this function and his previous assignment at the ICSS as Chief of Cabinet, Massimiliano has been instrumental in the establishment of strategic partnerships with many entities from sport, government and international organisations and in the development of global initiatives to promote social innovation and mutual understanding through sport, including youth mobility in key geopolitical areas such as the Mediterranean Basin. Previously, Massimiliano Montanari has worked for twelve years for different United Nations (UN) bodies, including the UN High-Commissioner for Refugees, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the UN Interregional Justice Institute, as well as taken part in Task Forces at the UN Secretariat in New York in different fields, such as addressing violent extremism, transitional justice and security in post-conflict zones. In his career as international civil servant, Massimiliano has operated in over 60 countries all around the world in pursuance of global objectives such as peace, inter-cultural dialogue and human development. His latest assignment at UN was as Head of the UN Center on Public-Private Partnership for the protection of vulnerable targets.
