Mason has 25 years of natural resource and environmental management experience working predominantly in New Zealand's energy, dairy manufacturing and resource management regulatory sectors. Currently Mason works for Mitchell Daysh as an Environmental Consultant. Mason's career to date has presented him with significant unique opportunities, challenges and experiences associated with consenting nationally significant renewable energy projects including, the Nga Awa Purua Geothermal Power Station (140MW), the Ngatamariki Geothermal Power Station (100MW) and the Turitea (180MW) and Puketoi (300MW) Wind Farms. In addition to his consenting and resource management experience, Mason also has a number of other related skills including community and iwi engagement, environmental management and compliance, project management and natural resource planning and regulatory process knowledge. Mason is of maori descent (Ngati Porou and Ngati Kahungunu), raised in the Hawkes Bay and East Coast regions, tertiary educated at Waikato University and currently resides in Hamilton, New Zealand.
1. Acquisition of resource consents and concessions for new large scale wind, geothermal, hydro and thermal power station projects and acquisition of new consents and consent variations to support Mighty River Power’s existing electricity generation assets. 2. Ongoing maintenance and enhancement of Mighty River Power’s key stakeholder relationships. 3. On behalf of Mighty River Power and its joint venture partners, lodge and defend submissions on third party consent application processes. 4. Implementation of new consents, concessions and associated third party commercial agreements. 5. Management of consent compliance during construction and commissioning of new power stations. 6. Co-ordinating environmental management and consent compliance for all of Mighty River Power’s operating geothermal generation sites7. Management of Mighty River Power’s Consents Teaam of Environmental Advisors.
•Processing consent applications for a wide range of activities and projects with a focus in the energy sector •Producing technical / planning reports for Council •Public consultation and facilitating public meetings •Presenting evidence to Hearing Committees •Monitoring compliance of large power generation, mining and landfill sites within the region •RMA enforcement for serious non-compliance •Management of the Region’s Contaminated Site Database
•Management of the waste water treatment facilities at the Te Rapa and Te Awamutu sites •Ensuring manufacturing sites comply with environmental legislation and all resource consent requirements. •Liaise with various stakeholders including neighbours, community groups and regulatory authorities. •Wastewater monitoring and factory product loss minimisation. •Member of the commissioning team for the Te Rapa site’s $8.1M wastewater treatment plant upgrade. •Acquisition of new consents and consent variations for dairy manufacturing sites. •Management of five permanent wastewater treatment plant operators.
