Develop and facilitate high-quality professional development workshops to increase educators’ effectiveness and confidence in teaching engineering to students, nationally and internationally. Provide professional development experiences and STEM pedagogy sessions through hands-on workshops, conferences/symposia, and online learning platforms. Program manager for scholarship and grant funded projects (over $1M) awarded to Engineering is Elementary (EiE) to bring engineering pedagogy and curricula to teachers across the country. Co-author, oversee budgets, and generate data-driven reports. Advise schools and districts on standards/curriculum alignment and implementation planning, especially with regards to large-scale implementation of engineering education. Lead and support cross-functional project teams in generating and evaluating new data-driven activities and pedagogical resources for teachers. Manage significant external relationships and work closely with multiple teams (PD, curriculum development, marketing, sales, advancement, and research) to identify professional development needs for clients and develop effective curriculum adoption plans in school districts. Promoted to Senior position in October 2018.
Developed syllabus and taught undergraduate Environmental Geology (GEO 100). Clearly communicated complex concepts to class of 80 students, integrated multimedia learning. Adapted lessons to meet the needs of diverse student learners. Incorporated active learning techniques through clicker response systems and think-pair-share exercises.
Worked collaboratively under Dr. Steven D'Hondt and Dr. Arthur Spivack studying radiolysis of water. Research topics included habitability of Earth's oceanic crust, habitability of Mars and nuclear spent fuel resilience. Published research papers related to water radiolysis. Skilled in multi-disciplinary data analysis. Conducted field research and trained to be a Chief Scientist for research cruises. Spent over 50 days at sea. Participated in weekly seminars on new teaching practices that promote effective instruction and creating more inclusive learning environments. Mentored undergraduate students with research projects and on lab procedures. Attended national and international scientific meetings and workshops contributing both oral and poster presentations.
Taught as part of an interdisciplinary team-teaching undergraduate course. Assisted with teaching and organizing introductory oceanography courses. Held office hours to assist students, administered and graded exams. Lectured to ~100 students, integrated instructional technology to enhance pedagogical techniques.
Lectured to non-science majors on Scientific Investigations. Interdisciplinary course investigated questions of societal and personal relevance using scientific knowledge (CORE 101). Coordinated and led field trips and workshops for K-12 students in line with NGSS. Science Coach for K-8 teachers during professional development trainings. Worked with teachers on how to effectively teach STEM curricula and make explicit connections to crosscutting concepts. Invited to give talk for science journalists as part of the Metcalf Institute for Marine and Environmental Reporting Annual Science Immersion Workshop.
