Additional Responsibilities: Facilities - Manage the JCVI facilities department and 2 physical locations; La Jolla, CA and Rockville, MD. The main headquarters are in La Jolla in a state of the art, energy neutral, LEED platinum 45,000 sq. ft. lab building. The entire physical plant is automated and runs on a Facilities management platform that controls all aspects of the building from lighting to HVAC controls. The building also produces 500KW of electricity from 1,488 SunPower solar panels. This system allows the JCVI to function at close to energy neutral, meaning we produce most of the electricity that we use. In addition to energy production, the JCVI also collects rain water to use for flushing toilets, irrigation, hose bibs and for the cooling tower. Again, all these systems are automated and run on the IT infrastructure. Physical Security - Manger the physical security department for the JCVI. We maintain a 24 x 7 security team as well as a camera system and access control system for building access. As with the facilities system, the security systems also run on the IT infrastructure. Labs - Work directly with the labs to purchase and maintain all lab equipment. Procure and review maintenance and service contracts for all lab equipment. Oversee the purchasing of lab supplies and inventory.
