About

Marty is an experienced trial lawyer who has handled cases in state and federal courts across the country throughout his career. He focuses his practice on business and commercial litigation and frequently represents clients from the for-profit higher education sector and others from the energy industry. Marty specializes in complex litigation and has extensive experience defending consumer class actions. In recent years Marty has defended over 500 consumer fraud cases and arbitrations brought by students or former students at for-profit colleges. He has extensive experience as lead counsel in jury trials, bench trials and arbitrations. His expertise in higher education litigation includes Title IV eligibility, regional and national accreditation, FERPA, and a wide variety of the regulatory and compliance issues regularly encountered by Title IV eligible institutions. His energy litigation experience includes the full spectrum of issues arising in E&P, transmission, distribution, storage and midstream, natural gas gathering and processing, and gas and electric utilities. He recently served for over 6 years as Defendants' Liaison Counsel, and represented a major regional gasoline retailer, in a Multi-District Litigation ("MDL") proceeding challenging the method by which the retail motor fuel industry measures and dispenses fuel at the point of sale. Marty joined the firm in 1981, became a partner in 1987, and has now been with the firm for over 40 years.
