I currently serve as Director of Programs and Development and Librarian at Hmong Cultural Center in Saint Paul, MN. As the Hmong Resource Center Library Director at the Hmong Cultural Center, I built up this institution’s collections and Hmong-related research databases into a nationally-recognized library of Hmong-related literature and research materials. I also initiated an e-mail newsletter in Hmong Studies, authored a Hmong census study that has been purchased by libraries, universities, and social service providers across the United States, created a popular educational website for the Hmong Cultural Center along with Hmong-related research databases and increased outreach to the Hmong, non-Hmong and academic communities while meeting with funders and engaging in fundraising and development activities. I also developed a website devoted to teaching about the Hmong traditional cultural arts (learnabouthmong.net) This multicultural education website earned an NEA grant. I have been the grantwriter/grants manager for the Hmong Cultural Center, a non-profit organization with an annual budget of $300,000 for the past 14 years. I have helped HCC successfully earn grants from a variety of funders including the National Endowment for the Arts (7 grant project awards), the MN State Arts Board (3 grant project awards), the Minnesota Historical Society (3 grant project awards), the Metro Regional Arts Council (multiple grant awards), the Saint Paul Foundation, the Otto Bremer Foundation, the Henry Luce Foundation, the MN Dept. of Education/Institute of Museum and Library Services and a variety of Minnesota and national foundations and government agencies over the past decade and a half.
