Offering Exploration, Appraisal & Development Geological support to the oil and gas industry: • Regional- and asset-scale geological evaluations including utilising play-based and petroleum systems analysis methods. • Stratigraphic and structural interpretations. • Integrated reservoir descriptions and their integration into static models. • Field development planning, well targeting and planning, operational geology. • Peer reviewing, best practice evaluation and continuous improvement assessment.
Responsibilities: • Construct and maintain a high-caliber production geoscience team by providing effective training opportunities and building core competencies. Provide mentorship and coaching to staff. • Deliver asset value through accurate reserves evaluations and by updating field development plans and building an inventory of drilling targets. • Provide Geoscience assurance across two major 100% assets and increase the technical quality of the Geoscience Function. • Drive improvements in geoscience processes and business efficiency/effectiveness whilst maintaining high health and safety standards. Achievements: • Recognised key technical deficiencies within the team and recruited specialist international talent to fill these competency gaps. Upskilled existing staff by providing access to cost-effective training and internal coaching opportunities, including field trips and core workshops resulting in the creation of a highly effective team. • Identified fundamental deficiencies in the geological correlations and structural framework of both assets leading to the team completely rebuilding the stratigraphic and structural models for these fields. Reserves were significantly downgraded as a result, and targets and development plans re-optimized accordingly. • Identified new zones for fracture stimulation through a by-passed pay analysis and increased completion opportunities by challenging petrophysical assumptions and dogma within the organization. • Developed/refined toll-gating and project delivery processes which increased collaboration and understanding across departments and reduced unnecessary duplication and complex sign-off.
Responsibilities: • Provided technical oversight and assurance to all existing exploration permits within the Taranaki Basin • Lead the evaluation and exploration strategy for two offshore permits and their commercial assessment – including deep-water developments. Achievements: • Provided geological and business justification for an experimental offshore 2D seismic survey across a challenging structure by piggy-backing competitor use of a seismic vessel. • Built a series of field development scenarios for two deep-water prospects with tie-backs to shore (including via third party infrastructure) and ran scoping economics to determine viability and optimal farm-out strategy.
New role following Repsol's take-over of Talisman in late 2014: Responsibilities: • Generate and provide screening economics for a range of brown/greenfield/3rd Party opportunities as part of a 10-year forward plan for the PM-3 permit. Achievements: • Delivered rapid and robust, technical and economic analyses of a range of opportunities by engaging with key stakeholders in facilities engineering, project management and commercial parts of the business. • Utilised expert knowledge in stratigraphic play types to completely revise volumes and reserves for a nearby satellite field, generating a new static model and Field Development Plan. • Successfully influenced and aligned challenging Vietnamese and Malaysian Partners and Regulators to accept the new interpretation of the satellite field and move the project toward sanction. • Coordinated and wrote a Feasibility Study Proposal for a 3rd Party tie-in (across international borders) to our existing infrastructure and initiated stage gate approvals and economic analyses.
Responsibilities: • Provide senior geological leadership to a small exploration team and generate a play-based, block-wide, prospect and leads inventory. • Drill one open-water exploration well. Achievements: • Re-evaluated the stratigraphic trapping potential across the entire permit leading to a change in corporate strategy from an existing multi-well, multi-year drilling program to testing one target and then re-evaluating due to significant technical risks. • Developed a prospect and resource inventory and series of development scenarios for economic modeling. • Generated a revised petroleum systems analysis of the permit and demonstrated the influence of key stratigraphic layers in controlling a separate phase of CO2 migration through the basin. • Developed a near-field appraisal strategy leading to the creation of a new development team and my next role. • Promoted, coordinated and screened the 2015 Malaysia Bid Round – in Sarawak, and Sabah.
