    Jul 2015 - Jul 2019 · 4 yrs 1 mo

WaTech is a new agency in Washington State. Its purpose is to provide essential IT infrastructure and services to all state agencies or to aid them in their mission to find infrastructure and services that meet their assigned missions. I am working with a small team to establish an Emergency Management and Preparedness (EMP) program within WaTech. Our mission – “Using the best practices and techniques available, develop tools, policies, procedures and plans for Washington Technical Solutions (WaTech) so we will successfully respond to and recover from all-hazards emergencies or other situations that may disrupt normal operations in order to meet our obligations to the executive branch, our customers, and to the people of the state.” We have a series of goals to achieve the mission and a dedicated team that takes our mission very seriously. It is gratifying to be able to articulate a vision, build coalitions, and create something that has the potential to reduce risk and save lives during a crisis. It is a great opportunity to build on past experience and training to create Emergency Management products for this new agency. Additionally, the EMP program will promote preparedness for WaTech’s staff so as to mitigate risk during an emergency. My vision is to make preparedness and resilience a part of the WaTech culture. I’m am currently serving on the leadership team for a statewide committee formed by the governor. This committee has representatives from all state agencies and is intended to help them with their COOP / Preparedness efforts. I’m also serving on the leadership team for the Washington State CERT program. I’m CERT trained and helping to guide the development and integration of this valuable resource into our existing Emergency Management assets. Last summer I worked in the Washington State Emergency Operations Center performing the duties of ESF-7 lead. I served both during the state activation and after FEMA joined us in a unified command.
