Since moving to Dubai with my family in 2003 to manage a private equity based IP portfolio, I have constantly been amazed at the importance of IP in the region, yet the apparent difficulty that overseas associates and private clients experience when seeking clear and timely advice in relation to filing, prosecution and enforcement of their IP rights. Working in-house, industry, with private investors and more recently as the Head of IP for the Abu Dhabi Government's Masdar City programme, I believe I have developed a understanding of what clients really expect from their IP professionals, and after setting up and managing D Young & Co's first overseas office in Dubai, the next logical step was to open my own Dubai, UAE based practice BKSIP in 2014, and now BK-IP in 2019! My aim at BK-IP is to help demystify the processes required for our trade mark and patent clients to enter and exploit their IP rights across the GCC and MENA region. In the process, we aim to bring UK and European standards of communication skills and openness in respect of our advice, timescales and fees.
