To provide adequate health, safety, environmental and quality support to the Energy from Waste site and other energy sites within the business as part of the SHEQ support team to ensure full compliance. The biggest achievement gained within this role is the successful development and roll out of the business’ behavioural safety program, developed for the whole business and created specifically to suit the different divisions. I have been heavily involved in the development of a number of the division’s policies and procedure such as: DSEAR Policy and Risk Assessment Template; Legionella, Manual Handling...to name a few. Undertaking risk assessments on work equipment to ensure compliance with PUWER, advising the site on compliance with any relevant BS EU and/or ISO standards. Involvement with the Permit to Work steering group to ensure a consistent approach across the energy business with the production of procedural documents stipulating responsibilities and approaches to permits to work and isolations within energy from waste. Development of an appointed persons procedure and authorisation panel for those applying isolations. Coaching employees and guiding management on the development of Risk Assessments to ensure they can become self sufficient in reducing foreseeable risks and influencing them on approaching the assessment of tasks following the hierarchy of controls. Planning shutdowns with management and ensuring contractor compliance. Compliance with CDM regulations and a year on year reduction of incidents. Involvement in the construction of our many new energy from waste plants. Ensuring environmental compliance against the site permitted operations. Liaising with the environmental agency for periodic reporting figures and any breach of emissions.
