Responsibility for the on-going design and delivery of the diversity and anti-racist professional learning. Development of a range of professional learning to support practitioners to use digital technology to support teaching and learning, including professional learning for AI. Working with Qualifications Wales and WJEC to develop professional learning to support the implementation of new qualifications. Ongoing engagement with universities in Wales, in the UK and internationally to ensure that the latest academic research is taken into account in the development of the professional learning.
Taking forward the Leadership Academy’s work in two strategic areas: 1) Working closely with Leadership Academy Associates and senior staff to lead the work on system leadership development, developing and delivering the evolving Associate model and building system leadership capacity across the education system in Wales 2) Working with providers and other stakeholders across the education system in Wales, including organisations in the ‘middle tier’, to lead the development and delivery of a robust quality assurance process for leadership development provision, to include the Leadership Academy’s established endorsement process
Leading the development of new arrangements for the Education Workforce Council to accredit Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes in Wales from January 2018 and monitor them thereafter. Lead the appointment of the ITE Accreditation Board. Manage and supervise the work of the ITE Accreditation Team. Work with ESTYN in respect of ongoing programme monitoring and compliance. Work with Welsh Government in allocating funded places to programmes and liaise with key stakeholders in further developing ITE provision in Wales.
Providing leadership at a strategic level, advising the Governing Body on the mission, educational character, objectives and strategic direction of the organisation, the efficient, economic and effective management of the organisation’s financial affairs, as accounting officer. Creating and leading a cohesive and high performing senior team that serves and reflects the strategic aims of the organisation, drawing on existing roles, capacities and skill sets. Liaising with the Welsh Government and relevant external institutions and representing the interests of the organisation in the external environment, brokering, fostering and where appropriate leading partnerships at national, regional and community levels that serve the aims of the organisation and its learners, and add value to its work. Ensuring that there is effective communication in both Welsh and English within the organisation and with learners, members, partners and stakeholders, ensuring that the organisation operates within both the regulatory and the framework determined by the Governing Body.
To lead the College in the successful achievement of its mission, strategic aims and objectives; to be in sympathy with the philosophies and values that underpin the College. To create a culture of high quality and continuous improvement and to continue to develop the College as one of the major providers of Community Learning across Wales.
