I work at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research along with the Canadian Museum of Nature to perform water quality research through geological time (paleolimnology). My work focuses on reconstructing past freshwater lake conditions using diatom fossils preserved in lake sediments. My research, particularly on ancient lakes, contributes to understanding long-term ecological shifts, water quality dynamics, and environmental variability. Key Responsibilities & Skills: - Taxonomic identification & classification of diatom species using light and scanning microscopy - Diatom community reconstruction by enumerating diatoms through light microscopy. - Paleoecological reconstruction by interpreting multiple proxies in sediment core analysis in addition to the diatom fossil record.
