Texas is Information Technology Scaling Apprenticeship Grant (TXIT)
Grant Program Specialist for a large scale federal grant awarded to Houston Community College from the U.S. Dept of Education, known as TPSID (Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities). Essentially this program serves as a bridge for students with intellectual disabilities transitioning from high school into a college environment, responsible for preparing them for university and ultimately work life. • Lead interface with HCC Procurement, working very closely with buyers from request for quotation (RFQ), analyzing competitive pricing, creation and tracking of requisitions, monitoring status of purchase order delivery, and expediting delivery status when appropriate. Maintain audit compliance with document control of PO/supporting docs. • Optimized supplier relationship network: Recruited additional vendors to maximize negotiation opportunities; significantly improving delivery efficiency time and costs annually to the program budget. • Recognized by program director and grant manager for successful application of HCC procurement/accounting guidelines consistent with Department of Education budget authorization procedures; reducing internal signature process approval time across the entire institution. • Coordinated communication efforts among 25-member advisory board committee charged with planning a sustainability strategy for VAST, involving fundraiser events sponsored by previously recruited vendors. • Successfully completed and managed annual database composed of 186 students’ demographic, academic, and financial information in two campuses to track and forecast semester registration; effectively adapting this recruiting strategy led to a registration increase over 10%. • Special project - market research: Collected data targeting Houston’s cosmeticians; allocated recruiting efforts through event promotions, mail-outs, and direct phone calls. This effort led to an expansion of scheduled classes offered.
