Marek holds an MSc in geology from Jagiellonian University and a PhD in geochemistry from the University of Bern. Following a postdoctoral position at the University of Edinburgh, Marek has worked for 16 years in radioactive waste management, with a focus on radioactive waste disposal safety. His professional experience includes research, consulting and regulatory roles in the UK, Spain, Switzerland and Germany.

My work at the University of Bern focused on the development and application of thermo-hydro-chemical (THC) models as a tool for performance assessment of geological disposal facilities for radioactive waste. In addition, I was involved in experimental and analytical work related to rad-waste disposal.
My main technical responsibilities in this role included the development and application of geochemical, flow and reactive transport models to performance/safety assessment of subsurface disposal of radioactive and toxic waste.
