Currently, I'm increasing my experience being a system engineer for the data transmission system provided by Deutsche Bahn. In March 2022, I finished my PhD with the topic "Massive Quasi-Distributed FBG Sensor Networks Interrogated with a CDM-WDM System" at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). As my PhD was embedded in a funded project with the University of Applied Sciences Wismar and the fiber optical sensing expert FBGS, I could earn detailed insights into photonics and fiber optical sensing. Together with the R&D team at FBGS and the support of my professors in Wismar and Madrid I was able to develop the prototype for a new sensor system allowing the interrogation of thousands of sensing points within a single optical fiber. Besides my expertise in parts of the photonic field, I could gain great writing and presentation skills within an international team and on international conferences as well as in journals. My hard work on my communcation skills got honered by an invitation for a key note speech on the international IEEE MTTW'21 conference and our paper being one of the few selected papers of the IEEE Sensors Conference 2020 published in the IEEE Sensors Journal. After my PhD, I took the opportunity to discover Europe with a self built camper van. This experience trained some undiscovered handcraft skills, improved a newly trained language, and required to take risks and focus on solutions. In order not to lose the connection to the optical field, I could continue my professional path with FBGS in a remote way of working during the trip.
