Working on the design and R&D of switched reluctance electric motors and inverters. In detail: - EMC (Automotive): managing testing and control strategy plan during product development - Project leader: low voltage/low power drive system - NVH: testing, measurements and new ideas to mitigate SR machine noise. - Power electronics and circuit design: Schematics, power components selection, thermal design, troubleshooting and SPICE simulation - Modelling and simulation of dynamic systems: electric, mechanic, acoustics, multi-physics, FEA - Where applicable replacing commercial design software with Open Source software, es: Maxima, Octave, SciLab, OpenModelica, LTspice, Elmer
Automotive Research & Developement. Involved in the design of inverters for brushless motors (range: 100W). In detail Dimensioning of electronic devices and circuits with respect to current load and power dissipation. Identification of passive components (if possible, mounted on PCB) parasitic parameters. Introduced in the company the following open source and free software: Octave (replaces Matlab), SciLab (replaces Simulink) and LTspice (replaces standard spice simulators environments) Performing Spice and SciLab simulations. Performing data analysis with Octave e.g. bulk capacitor ripple current estimation for capacitor useful life. Working on EMC testing. Cooperating with EMC labs to perform tests as required by specifications and solving emerging issues. Built a very simple setup for conducted emissions in our lab. Working on electrical tests. Designed the test setup as required by specifications. A characteristic of the setup is that testing operations and real time visualization of acquisitions are available through all the company via Ethernet. Instrumentation used: Oscilloscope, digitizer, function generator, VNA, power supply, data logger, impedance analyzer.
