As President and CEO of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE), Marcel van der Watt (Ph.D.) brings over 24 years of expertise in combating the interconnected criminal economies of organized crime, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation. Marcel has earned global recognition for his leadership, investigative expertise, and research contributions. His extensive background as a police investigator, hostage and suicide negotiator, and criminal case consultant continues to inform and inspire his work today. Marcel has consulted on and provided expert court testimony in several sex trafficking cases. He has briefed senior policymakers and legislators at the highest levels, including members of the US Congress, the White House National Security Council, the Homeland Security Council, the UK Parliament’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Commercial Sexual Exploitation, as well as South Africa’s Presidency and Multi-Party Women’s Caucus. His briefings have covered critical issues such as sextortion, organized crime, online exploitation, and the myths surrounding the sex trade. As a keynote speaker and published scholar, Marcel’s commentary has appeared in prominent outlets including The Hill, MSNBC, The Washington Examiner, The Blaze, Mail & Guardian, Daily Maverick, and The Conversation. He has delivered training and shared his expertise with professionals from law enforcement, government, academia, and civil society in more than 30 countries. His deep commitment to justice is rooted in his personal faith in Jesus Christ and his deliberate practice of nonpartisanship in efforts to bring about a world free from sexual abuse and exploitation. Married to his best friend Karolien, Marcel finds great joy in seeing others thrive, pursue their dreams, and hone their talents.
