Founder of Skin-Gut-Axis.com and Dermal Therapist BSc with more than 20 years of experience. Since starting my clinical career in 1999, I have developed a deep interest in the interaction between the skin, the gut, and the human microbiome. Over the years, this evolved into a professional focus that positioned me as an early pioneer of the skin–gut axis in the Netherlands and Belgium. I specialize in translating complex scientific concepts about skin physiology, the gut environment, and microbial ecosystems into clear, evidence‑informed insights for professionals. My first book, The Skin-Gut Connection (2019), is a 632‑page reference work based on six years of research. My second book, The Wonderful Collaboration Between Skin & Gut (2023), offers an accessible summary of these core concepts. Both books are now available in English: The Amazing World Of The Skin-Gut Axis (2024) and German: Die Wunderbare Zusammenarbeit Zwischen Haut & Darm (2025). Today, I work internationally as a speaker and educator, sharing knowledge about the skin–gut axis with skin therapists, beauty professionals, and health‑oriented practitioners. My mission is to make the science behind the skin–gut axis understandable, reliable, and practically useful—without making medical claims or offering treatment advice. The book 'De huid-darm connectie' (2019) written by Marcelline Goyen, skin therapist BHS, is a Dutch book about the skin-gut axis. In about 630 pages it describes the journey through all the layers of the skin on the way to the intestines and back. Herein topics such as skin parameters, functions, the importance of the correct (skin) pH, sebogenesis, enzymes, antimicrobial peptides, skin and gut microbiome and the immune system of both skin and gut. And of course the interaction between the skin and gut, helped by our microbiota and influenced by pH, enzymes, communication, our immune system, lifestyle (stress), food and pre- and probiotics. This book offers many new insights, all based on scientific literature.
