Since October 2017, Marcel is responsible for the development of the strategy and projects related to the role of Vopak in the Energy Transition. In this entrepreneurial role he combines understanding of technology developments, connecting with future partners and developing stakeholder management to identify future supply chains and let Vopak become part of new solutions to decarbonize the industry. Since February 2021 Marcel's focus on new energies has become global. Marcel graduated as Master of Science at Delft University of Technology. Over the years Marcel has worked in different senior management positions in the Netherlands, France and South Africa. Starting in the operational/technical/safety area, developing in General management positions and during the last years being active in strategic commercial roles. With significant experience in line management as Terminal Manager of the Europoort Terminal and Managing Director in South Africa together with the strategic insights he build over the years of being a Global Account Director and Commercial Director, Marcel can identify opportunities, build bridges and realize new businesses.
Leading the new strategic partnership with OQ/OTTCO on developing new strategic infrastructure investments in Oman, focusing on Duqm region. Bringing together the developments in existing products and energy flows with the new clean energy export.
Support the energy transition in energy hubs by developing new infrastructure for hydrogen import and export using Ammonia, LOHC or Liquid Hydrogen. Identify and realise business opportunities around the world to develop port infrastructure for ammonia to build new supply chains together with local and regional teams. Develop new first of a kind projects with supporting technologies, strategic collaborations with customers based on new governemental regulations and ambitions.

Transport of chemical gasses and LPG by inland and coastal shipping in NW-Europe. Responsible for the fleet of Chemgas, including crew (220 fte) and assets (36 units). Project owner for new build vessels including design, construction and commissioning.
