About

I love learning and taking on new challenges. I excel at both manual testing and writing test automation. As a Senior Quality Engineer, I've written test automation that's performant and effective at detecting feature regressions, and I've dug into applications to find the elusive bugs. I've written tests for both Java and Ruby stacks, using Selenium for web applications and RSpec for REST API endpoints. I've also developed production code for a Ruby on Rails back-end.

Experience

  • Senior Quality Assurance Engineer at InsightRX
    Sep 2019 - Jan 2025 · 5 yrs 5 mos

Assured product compliance with both US and EU regulatory requirements Developed formal test case documents for a product used by doctors to help determine dosing for a treatment course. Created automated tests that allowed for regressions to be fixed before code was checked into a build Reviewed contracts for compliance with internal and regulatory rules

  • QA Automation Engineer at Protingent

Built test framework infrastructure and tests for SAAS back-end Quickly learned to code test infrastructure that models the complexity of the application under test in Scala. Refactored tests and testing infrastructure to take advantage of Functional Programming methodology. Created tests for a back-end that supports clients creating customizable marketing campaigns.

Built the continuous integration test automation for a complete rebuild of the Store Hours API service. Once that was done transitioned to test and maintain 17 Rails legacy services. The refactored API service for Store Hours ran flawlessly over Thanksgiving and Christmas for the first time in four years. Built performance tests for the Store Hours service. Used those tests to demonstrate readiness for production deploy and ramped up the load on those tests to identify performance bottlenecks. Worked with Operations and Product Management to identify and define target benchmarks and SLAs. Raised the level of quality for the legacy services in preparation for the hand-offs to outside engineering groups. Migrated the services from Heroku to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) as the hosting environment, and migrated from Apigee to Kong as the API framework. Debugged issues by querying data in the Postgres database via multi-table joins and by setting up sophisticated searches in Splunk.

  • Senior Quality Engineer at Constant Contact
    Feb 2012 - Jun 2016 · 4 yrs 5 mos

Lead the test efforts on a full-stack application that integrated in-house applications such as an email editor and a contact list manager with external social media applications such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Wrote a test framework from scratch for the Ruby on Rails applications. This framework provided an abstraction of the web pages, according to the principals of Page Object Model (POM). Built tests in RSpec, Capybara, and Selenium WebDriver for the web front-end of the application. Tests were built using Cucumber’s Gherkin structure. Built tests in Java, JUnit, and Selenium for both front and back ends of the application. Built performance tests for the REST back-end. Created functionality in the application to adapt to changes in Facebook’s API. Wrote and gave a presentation on the applicability of the OODA loop to software development, how cognitive bias affects our decision making, and the usefulness of Docker. Trained other testers to write tests in Ruby, Capybara, and Rspec. Collaborated with the DBA for rollout of data migrations.
