Dr. med. Dr. sc. nat. M. Kölling is a physician scientist at the Charité, Department of Nephrology and Medical Intensive Care. His major clinical and research interests include the impact of non-coding RNAs on the initiation and progression of chronic kidney disease. He aims to identify novel therapeutic targets to reduce the development of kidney fibrosis and its inevitable progression to end-stage renal disease. In addition, he established a biomarker pipeline utilizing the stability of circular RNAs in extracellular fluids as novel diagnostic approach for early detection and prediction of acute kidney injury and acute T cell-mediated renal allograft rejection. Dr. Dr. Kölling completed his medical degree at the Hannover Medical School and his doctor of medicine at the Institute of Molecular und Translational Therapeutic Strategies, Hannover, Germany (Summa cum laude). In addition, he completed a PhD in Integrative Molecular Medicine at the ETH and University of Zurich, Switzerland.
