About

I am an energy economist and policy researcher specialising in electricity market design and net‑zero delivery, working at the interface of government, regulation and energy‑system transformation. I am currently Lecturer in Energy and Sustainability at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex, and a Principal Research Fellow (part‑time) at the UCL Energy Institute and I served as Research Director of the UCL Centre for Net Zero Market Design. My research focuses on electricity market design, Contracts for Difference (CfDs), offshore wind, hydrogen systems, and infrastructure finance, combining quantitative modelling with policy analysis. I have published over 50 research outputs and my work has received 1,700+ citations (h‑index 17). I have led or contributed to over £1.5m in competitively won research funding and £250k+ in consultancy, including acting as Principal Investigator on the DESNZ‑commissioned evaluation of UK CfD Allocation Rounds 4-7 and leading a Nuffield Foundation project on the Distributional Impacts of Net Zero on Electricity Consumers (DINZEC). My work has informed electricity market reform (REMA) in the UK, contributed evidence to UK and German parliamentary processes, and been used by DESNZ, Ofgem, OECD, World Bank, IDB and national governments. I regularly engage with the media, with 150+ appearances across outlets including The Guardian, Nature, Forbes, NBC News, CBC Radio, and Der Spiegel. Alongside research, I have 7+ years of postgraduate teaching experience, am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and have supervised 50+ MSc dissertations and multiple PhD researchers. I co‑founded PowerSwarm, an international network connecting academia, policy and industry on energy‑system transformation (650+ members).
