Teaching people of all ages to SPEAK English. It is all very well and fine to be able to read and write another language but the MAIN purpose of language is to communicated verbally. Of course, one must have basic notions of grammar, etc. but what good is learning a foreign language, going to another country where that language is spoken and...... one does not open one's mouth because of fear of speaking? As a child, I didn't start speaking because I knew the grammar of English, I started speaking because I was imitating the sounds I heard. A personal example: When I arrived in Spain, many years ago, I ended up living in Barcelona for reasons that are not important to this example. People there spoke Catalan and I eventually ended up speaking it too, because I heard it all the time. So I can speak, read certain subjects in Catalan but I don't write it well because I have never studied it. So, what does that tell you? Draw your own conclusions, please.
