I read recently that they say the emerging fortunes are buying Art first and foremost for investment rather than for passion or as a hobby. So why don't they buy "Useful Art"? After all, if you can spend nearly $1bn on a yacht, as one billionaire is supposed to have spent on his floating palace. Isn't that Art in itself? Probably not because with more money you can build yet another yacht, bigger, faster and better, but you can’t get an up-market Manet, Cézanne, or Picasso made for you. You just have to envy with the other wealthy collectors until one appears on the market. So, just like the exclusive rarity of Art, money can't always buy all of life's exclusive luxuries, although the exclusiveness of luxury can be more accessible than art. Not every billionaire could have such an elegant Spiral Staircase like this one on his floating Palace, and not very many of the worlds 1,400 billionaires could acquire such a luxury, but why? Quite simply it's 'exclusiveness' due to complexity and rarity. So with "Investors art" being a question of availability and lust, the luxurious diversity of tomorrows ultra-luxurious creativity maybe from Architecture to exclusive Furniture.
