"Omnia mea mecum porto" Prof. Maciej Kostrubiec, MD, PhD, is a cardiologist consultant and a scientist at The Medical University of Warsaw, a member of the Polish Cardiac Society and the Royal College of Physicians, Fellow of the European Cardiac Society (FESC), Fellow of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (FEACVI) and HFA/ESC-certified specialist in heart failure. Prof. Kostrubiec is a subject matter expert at The Office for Registration of Medicinal Products in Poland and The European Medicines Agency (EMA). He is an expert in right heart failure, cardiovascular imaging (echocardiography, cardiac CT and CMR) and invasive cardiovascular investigation. He has gained most of his experience at the Department of Internal Medicine, Hypertension and Angiology, Public Central Teaching Hospital (2000-2007) and the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology with the Centre of Diagnosis and Treatment of Venous Thromboembolic Disease, The Infant Jesus Teaching Hospital in Warsaw (2007-2018), where he focused on echocardiography and interventional cardiology, specializing in right heart failure and venous thromboembolism. He did a fellowship at the Pulmonary Vascular Diseases Unit, at Papworth Hospital, the University of Cambridge Health Partner (United Kingdom). Subsequently, he was employed as a General Physician and Cardiology consultant at Mercy University Hospital and Cork College University in Ireland (2018-2019). Since 2019, he has worked in the United Kingdom at Mid Essex Hospital NHS Trust (2019-2023) and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust (2023-2024), being primarily involved in a specialist service for patients with heart failure. In 2024, he joined the team of cardiologists in the Mater Private Network Cork, Ireland. His scientific passion led him to coauthor approx. 100 scientific publications with a summary Impact Factor above 500 and several chapters in medical textbooks. His publications were cited more than 4800 times, and his Hirsch index is 33. Prof. Kostrubiec is an internationally recognised specialist in right heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. His scientific activities were granted several awards, i.e. the Presidents of the Polish Cardiac Society, the Ministry of Health, and the Rector of the Warsaw Medical University. As an enthusiastic tutor, he has taught undergraduates and postgraduates at the Medical University of Warsaw, University College Cork and the NHS University Hospitals. Currently, he leads the MSc/PGDip Cardiology Programme in cooperation with the University of Buckingham and Learna.
