Internationally experienced Australian publisher and author with a lifelong passion for print media. Published by Macmillan New York, ran a publishing business in New York and France, possessing experience and qualifications in finance and traditional and digital marketing, I am seeking a new role in the Australian publishing industry to share my skills, help others achieve their potential, and bring the best quality publishing projects to fruition. Some career highlights include: • Launching an addiction memoir at Book Expo America at the Javitz Center in New York, one of the world's largest professional industry book fairs • Attending the San Diego Comic Con as a professional creator to conduct a signing for Tor Books (Macmillan) • Visiting NBC at the Rockerfeller Centre in New York to pitch print TV rights to the SciFi channel. • Launching Floating World Press, my own company, with a stable of great authors. • Seeing books I've written on the shelves in some of my favourite New York, Los Angeles & London bookstores (Barnes & Noble, Forbidden Planet, etc.) • Working with authors and creative professionals to produce high quality publications. I have experienced the publishing industry from both sides, as an author and as a publisher working with authors and, with skills in marketing, design, project management, communication, composition, and editing, I have a personal experience of every stage of book production, enabling me to effectively manage teams to produce high quality deliverables to deadline. As a creator I maintain my own Instagram and Facebook channels with over 10,000 followers and have managed celebrity social media accounts with over 1,000,000 followers, including running online events, giveaways, etc. Outside of work: Avid reader, tai chi & meditation teacher, haiku poet, Jack Russel terrier owner, skilled at growing herbs, plants and trees from seed, analog music and photography enthusiast, typewriter collector.
Managed small press, publishing trade non-fiction: self-help, yoga, tai chi, meditation, inspirational bio, art books, cookbooks. Responsible for identifying and nurturing potential projects, developing close relationships and negotiating contracts with authors, and overseeing the production process from concept through to release and marketing.
Author of a science fiction space opera novel Wolf’s Empire (worldwide release), promoted with signing and panels at the Tor booth at San Diego Comicon 2017. Credited ghost writer of celebrity addiction memoir Babylon Confidential, promoted at BookExpo America 2012 with signing and panel. Wrote and produced the science fiction special effects short film, Barrier: The Invisible Machine, listed on IMDB. Negotiated with stakeholders, including celebrity actors from Babylon 5, The Lord Of The Rings and Neighbours, located in different countries, to bring the film to fruition.
Started out as a journalist and photographer, interviewing martial artists for articles in Interactive Martial Arts magazine. Moved over to their insurance business, the largest martial arts insurance provider in Australia, to sell and renew insurance policies for hundreds of clubs, and assist with claims management.
Ran a full-time tai chi and meditation school in upstate New York. I paused my career to support my wife in her post-doctoral research post in America.
Started out with marketing and graphic design role, upskilled over a year to acquire a Certificate IV qualification in Financial Services and progressed to Loans Manager, handling a portfolio of clients, guiding them from application through to approval for residential and commercial finance.
