About

I am a software engineer with the proven experience to both produce high-value results and lead teams of professionals from concept to commercially viable software products. Accomplished full stack developer and business leader that adds value at all layers of an organization. I have 15+ years of professional experience developing software across a wide variety of contexts: artificial intelligence, genetic analysis, biomedical research tools, financial wellness, drones, real estate, food and beverage, music education, hospitality, and more. I am passionate about new business opportunities that provide real value to customers. I thrive on learning new technologies and applying them to solve interesting problems. Computer technology has captured my attention ever since I was a toddler (my dad has a picture of me playing with a TRS-80 keyboard beside his desk). My focus gradually shifted from playing video games to programming clones of classics like Dr. Mario and Pacman. Software development really took root while pursuing my PhD in bioinformatics at Georgia Tech. My first script (Perl) reduced 40 manual hours of collecting biological data into 10 minutes. The upward spiral continues...

  • Labelbox ()
    • Staff Software Engineer
      Jul 2021 - Jun 2023 · 2 yrs

Labelbox is a collaborative training data platform for artificial intelligence applications. We help enterprises create and manage labeled data at scale so that they can focus on building what their customers want. Planned and led the development of assisted AI-labeling V2 (for our image, video, and medical imagery labeling editors); delivered full-stack with Meta's Segment Anything model in 1.5 months; significant collaboration and stakeholder alignment, mentoring senior engineers, drafting technical designs and building key abstractions that both deliver critical business value and increase velocity. Co-led the design and delivery of a high-performant, rendering library (Canvas API / WebGL) for efficiently and accurately rendering annotations; fully documented and covered with unit tests. Assisted AI framework: principally developed a low-latency (1s), full-stack pipeline for GPU powered, automatic image segmentation. Co-designed raster segmentation labeling and led a small team (3-4 developers) to deliver this capability within the video editor; involved sophisticated IO, asynchronous processing, advanced graphical operations and visualization, UI tooling, performance optimization, and caching. Performed dozens of technical interviews and hiring screens.

    • Senior Software Engineer
      Mar 2020 - Jul 2021 · 1 yr 5 mos

Led production of video editor V2 with a completely overhauled UI and virtualized annotation timeline; a decoupled, temporal view model orchestrates several asynchronous data streams to produce a dynamic, synchronized, responsive, resilient, accurate, and performant visualization. Significantly improved data integrity of our optimistic persistence strategy by building a serialized write queue that prevented numerous race conditions at scale. Developed service for instrumenting and profiling UI latency across any chain of events and reporting this via DataDog dashboards. Optimized the image editor performance to support rapidly displaying and interacting with 1000+ annotations (pan, zoom, select, hide, etc). Video labeling: helped develop the first Labelbox video editor complete with a custom video player UI/UX and temporal, interpolated annotation CRUD.

  • Senior Software Engineer at DroneDeploy
    Dec 2016 - Oct 2019 · 2 yrs 11 mos

DroneDeploy makes drone operations simple. DroneDeploy is cloud-based drone mapping software that helps businesses solve critical problems, fast. The platform offers a powerful range of products that enables its customers to easily collect and analyze aerial data using any type of drone. The early successes of DroneDeploy have come from solving a range of problems in the agriculture, mining, GIS, and construction industries. The DroneDeploy platform is built to be the easiest, fastest, and most powerful aerial mapping solution available—controlling multiple drones from anywhere, on any device.
