About

For years, many AEC firms grew through negotiated work, repeat clients, and long-standing relationships. That worked well for a long time, but the market has changed. Competition is stronger, clients have more options, and firms that never really invested in business development are realizing they cannot rely on repeat work alone. That is a big part of why I built DELT Strategy. I spent years doing BD in the AEC industry the way most people do: figuring it out alone, with no real training and plenty of expectations. I saw how often firms expected people to develop business without ever teaching them how to do it. Today, I work with AEC firms that know they need to be more intentional about growth. Some need an experienced BD partner who can help with strategy, relationships, positioning, and pursuits. Others want to build that capability internally and need their technical staff and seller-doers trained on how to actually do business development. One thing I talk about often is that sales and business development are not the same thing. In AEC, BD happens long before there is anything to sell. It is about relationships, trust, positioning, market awareness, understanding where work is coming from, and being in the right conversations before an RFP is released. My work includes BD retainer support, seller-doer training, BD Bootcamps, market intelligence through BuildDataIntel, and AI strategy consulting for AEC firms. I have spent over 20 years in this industry. I have been in the proposal room at midnight and coached technical professionals who thought BD was something only the BD team did. Some of the best BD happens through the people closest to the client and the work. I grew up speaking Russian, then learned English, then business, then construction. That experience shapes how I train seller-doers today. Business development is a skill. It can be taught, practiced, and improved. My work has been recognized by GlobeSt., SD Metro, The Daily Transcript, and the San Diego Business Journal. If your firm has relied heavily on repeat clients and negotiated work and is realizing that growth now requires a more intentional approach to BD, that is where I can help.
