About

I am a director working in the UK and Europe in settings ranging from large scale Opera houses and regional theatres to site specific locations and training institutions. I have worked regularly for The Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne and Opera North among others. ​ Directing credits include Scenes projects for The National Opera Studio, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and The Royal Academy of Music. ​The Flying Dutchman, Eugene Onegin and The Blank Canvas (all for OperaUpClose), The Promise (Handpicked Productions, Summer tour 2023), Voices of the Sands (Deal Festival, 2022), Her Day (Coventry City of Culture March 2022), Trouser Power (RBO), Sophie (Tete a Tete), No Sound Ever Dies, (Surrey Arts at Brooklands Museum), Eugene Onegin (Arcola Theatre), Belongings, Tycho's Dream and Into the Harbour, (Glyndebourne), The Finding (Mahogany Opera), Recital 1 (British Museum and Gemäldagalerie, Berlin), Found and Lost (Corinthia Hotel). I have worked regularly as a Revival Director, including on Tosca (RBO) and Street Scene (Oper Köln, Opera Monte Carlo). As an Associate Director I worked on Nixon in China by John Adams at Teatro Real, Madrid and in 2024 and 2022 on The Handmaid's Tale by Poul Ruders, at San Francisco Opera & The Royal Danish Opera. In January 2022 I revived Jonathan Kent's production of Tosca for The Royal Opera House, London, and will revive the same production again in January 2024. I have worked extensively as an Assistant Director and Staff Director, regularly for The Royal Opera House ( including on Agrippina, Don Carlos, Orphee et Euridice, The Queen of Spades, Tosca, Rusalka, The Lost Thing and How the Whale Became.) At Glyndebourne Festival, (on Fidelio, La Finta GIardiniera, The Marriage of Figaro, Rusalka, Billy Budd, Nothing and The Knight Crew ) and for Opera North (Giulio Cesare, From the House of The Dead and The Queen of Spades.) In Europe I have worked as an assistant director at Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Real Madrid and Den Jyske Oper, Denmark, and in the US, on Billy Budd at BAM. I have also worked as an assistant director for The Young Vic, The South Bank Centre, Rifco Arts and Mahogany Opera Group. Participation has played a central role in my work and I have created opera and theatre with diverse and varied groups including children & young people, elders, those at risk of exclusion and refugees.
