My name is Lucas Bucht, and I’m a sophomore electrical engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh. I have a passion for innovation, problem-solving, and making an impact on the world through technology. My fascination with engineering started at a young age, learning about electricity through Snap Circuits toys. That curiosity and creativity grew throughout middle and high school as I participated in FIRST robotics programs. One project that solidified my love for engineering was designing, coding, and wiring my FRC team’s button dispenser, a hands-on experience that inspired me to pursue a focus in electrical engineering at Pitt. At Pitt, a large part of my growth has come from serving as a resident assistant. The role has taught me how to stay calm under pressure, support people of different backgrounds, and create an environment where everyone feels comfortable reaching out for help. Those communication and problem-solving habits carry over into every project I work on. On the engineering side, I’ve been developing a mix of digital and analog skills. My freshman design team built a UV-C light bar system to reduce disposable wipe waste in campus gyms, and we were selected to present it at the Senior Design Expo. More recently, I’ve been working on a VHDL calculator implemented on a DE10-Lite FPGA, along with personal projects like designing and prototyping a fuzz pedal using an LM386-based analog signal path. My future plans are focused on contributing to advancements in sustainable technology and innovative systems through co-ops, research, and industry experience. One of my favorite quotes, "Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value," by Albert Einstein, guides how I approach my future engineering goals. I believe in creating solutions that benefit people and leave a lasting impact. Feel free to connect - I'm always excited to collaborate and explore learning opportunities!
