My research investigates how social and environmental-related commitment is interpreted by different stakeholders, and when this commitment enhances or undermines firm value. As firms increasingly invest in social and environmental-related commitment, questions remain about its strategic value: How does this commitment shape the perceptions of investors, employees, or potential acquirers? And under what conditions do these perceptions translate into tangible value for the firm? To explore these questions, I draw on signaling and stakeholder theories and focus on two increasingly relevant empirical contexts: ESG bond issuance and B Corp certification.
